Toxicology report indicates injuries killed Kaelynn Fay

Kaelynn Fay died from the injuries she suffered in a tragic accident that took place on the night of July 18.

Toxicology tests showed no signs of drugs or alcohol in her system, Kankakee County Coroner Robert Gessner said Tuesday.

Fay, 18, and a passenger were driving south on Warner Bridge Road north of Illinois Route 102 when she swerved to avoid a construction barrel lying in the middle of the road. Her car rolled over but the pair were able to escape the wreckage.

A short time later, a second car swerved to avoid the barrel, but avoided a rollover. After that, Fay apparently tried to remove the barrel and was struck and killed by a third car while standing near the shoulder of the road.

The crash has been under reconstruction by police. The status of the investigation was unclear as of this morning.
