NYC man convicted in Camden torture-murders

CAMDEN — A New York City man charged in a case where two victims were tortured, killed and left partially buried in a Camden yard has been convicted of murder and numerous other counts.

Peter Leonce of Astoria was the remaining defendant facing charges in the 2010 gang-related killings of 23-year-old Mount Holly resident Michael Hawkins and Hawkins? 18-year-old girlfriend, Muriah Huff of Cinnaminson. The other nine defendants either pleaded guilty or were convicted of various offenses related to one or both of the killings.

Camden County prosecutors said the 21-year-old Leonce was among those who initiated the attack on the two victims. They said Hawkins was beaten and shot in a gang dispute, while Huff was an innocent bystander killed to prevent her from identifying the attackers.
