Lost love letters belong to a still-married St. Anne couple

Tim Ziemer always wondered about those love letters he wrote to Judy back before they were married.

About a month ago, he was surprised to find them on the front page of The Daily Journal.

After leaving behind a box full of personal items when they moved from their home in Bradley, current home owner Dave Sadlers found it, along with love letters from more than 40 years ago, in the attic early last month. The Ziemers met at the home and retrieved them Sunday.

"It was a pretty strange deal," said Tim, who just returned to St. Anne from a family wedding in Alaska and a 40th wedding anniversary celebration with Judy.

The letters might have been put up there to keep them away from the kids, Tim said Tuesday. And it's not like he just forgot about them. "I was wondering what happened to them," Tim said.

They found out when where they were their daughter called and told them the love letters were on the front page of The Daily Journal.

The love is still very real for the Ziemers. After attending their daughter's wedding in Alaska, they went on a three-week cruise to celebrate their anniversary, then went camping with the family.

"We had a great time," Tim said. "That was pretty great."

Tim and Judy were actually born in the same hospital just a day apart, he said, with him one day older. The two became high school sweethearts, and soon after high school, they were married.

They met as freshman in high school in 1968, and not under the most ideal conditions. They were both part of an initiation hazing, when both were picked out of a crowd during a inter-school meeting and Tim was forced to "propose."

That wasn't a real engagement, but "it just stuck ever since," Tim said.

About a year after high school, they got married. Even without their letters, they've lived happily after.

"We've been best friends, that's for sure," Tim said.

The couple has three children and four grandchildren.

"It's all been pretty special," Tim said.
