Kankakee County has a fertile agriculture industry and is working to stabilize and grow its manufacturing and construction industries.
Now the county is attempting to nurture another industry: Entertainment.
Specifically, film and television production, but don't expect to see a Hollywood East sign anytime soon.
Doug Redenius, the Momence man who spent years collecting James Bond movie props and even assisting in Bond movie productions, is pushing to get movie and television producers to consider Kankakee County as viable filming locations.
Redenius, 57, who now serves as marketing director for the Kankakee County Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Alliance of Kankakee County, will meet with the managing director of the Illinois Film Office on Aug. 22.
The meeting with Betsy Steinberg, whom Redenius describes as one of the film industry's most powerful woman east of Hollywood, is designed to gain insight as to how Kankakee County can gain the attention of film makers and production companies.
