MANCHESTER — A cleaning crew in a foreclosed mobile home found a military practice bomb Wednesday and called police, forcing the evacaution of residents from 20 homes in the Pine Ridge community for an hour, police said.
Police were called at 2 p.m. to the Pine Ridge mobile home park off Route 530 in the Whiting section for a bomb scare, according to a statement by Lt. Lisa Parker, a spokeswoman for the township police department.
An object resembling a military bomb was found inside a mobile home foreclosure on Woodchuck Parkway by the cleaning crew, Parker said.
The cleaning crew brought the 18-to-20-inch long artillery round to the mobile home park?s main office, located at 2 Fox St., she said. The park office then called police.
Township police officers and firefighters with the Whiting Volunteer Fire Company evacuated the area until the Air Force Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit responded.
EOD specialists determined the object was a 25-pound practice bomb utilized by the military as a training aid for pilots, police said.
EOD specialists removed the practice bomb and took it for proper disposal, police said.
