Kankakee 'car' show offers bus, boats

Kankakee's "Wednesday Wheels" season finale car show is set for 5 tonight at the parking lots around the historic depot at Merchant Street at East Avenue. And, to shake things up, organizers announced today that they have broadened the scope of the traditional venue for cars, trucks and motorcycles.

"We're going to have some of the local boats that competed at the regatta over the weekend," said event planner Bill Yohnka. "I think drivers Sam Miller and Alyssa Petroni are going to be there to talk about their boats and the racing we saw."

Also included in tonight's inventory: one 1956 scenic-cruiser bus. It's owned by Timothy Hoekstra, of Kankakee, and is part of an increasingly popular era of buses being restored by collectors.
