RED BANK — Gone is the Jade Garden and Kraemer Photography Studio and coming in their place could be Red Bank Family Pharmacy, pending a hearing next Monday.
The planning board will hold a first hearing on RJD Realty?s plans for a 2,440-square-foot drug store at 141-143 Broad Street on August 5.
RJD Realty of Monroe filed a minor site plan application last month with the planning board to renovate the vacant one-story, 4,883-square-foot Broad Street stores and divide them into a 2,440-square-foot pharmacy and two smaller 1,007-square-foot stores. The proposed pharmacy is several blocks away from the closed Professional Pharmacy, which shut down earlier this year.
The Broad Street plans also call for facade renovations to the one-story masonry building, which T&M Associates, the borough?s engineer, said should be signed off on by the borough?s Historic Preservation Committee and the RiverCenter Visual Improvement Committee. The building is located in a historic district.
Meanwhile, the building at 12 Broad Street, which formerly housed Zebu?s restaurant, would get some interior renovations, under plans filed July 25 by the Jersey City-based 12 Broad Street LLC on behalf of Newport Capital Group.
Those renovations would be done on the upper four stories, while a storefront would remain on the ground floor along with first-floor office space. Plans didn?t say what type of retail was envisioned for the 1,066-square-foot commercial space.
The Broad Street pharmacy plan comes with a lower dose of controversy than another proposed pharmacy, a 14,000-square-foot Walgreen?s planned about a mile south on Route 35. The Walgreen?s proposal would be more than triple the size of the drug store proposed by RJD Realty.
So far a hearing date hasn?t been set for the Walgreen?s pharmacy, proposed at one of the borough's most congested intersections ? Route 35, Broad Street and Newman Springs Road, which has also raised concerns among residents in neighboring Little Silver.
