Kelly German named Illinois conservationist of year

Kelly German, staff member of the U.S. Natural Resource Conservation Service in Iroquois County, has been named District Conservationist of the Year for Illinois by the Illinois Department of Agriculture and the Illinois Stewardship Alliance.

German has been NRCS district conservationist for Iroquois County since March 2012.

She was selected to receive the conservationist of the year award for enrolling 20 new farmers and land owners with more than 9,100 acres in the Conservation Stewardship Program this year.

German "works hard to promote the program across the county and encourages producers to sign up for CSP," the announcement said. "The CSP is aimed at rewarding farmers who are doing a great job of conservation on their land and want to further their efforts to protect our natural resources."

The conservationist of the year award is sponsored by the Illinois Stewardship Alliance, which has the motto "Local Food Matters.
